“We must prioritise work from home, online conferences, and virtual meetings again,” he said. The Prime Minister linked the appeal directly to India’s energy security concerns and rising global pressure on imported petroleum products.
PM Modi WFH advise: Why PM wants Indians to work from home again
Unlike the Covid-19 years, the latest work-from-home appeal is not linked to a health emergency. Modi framed it as an economic and national-interest measure aimed at lowering fuel use during a period of global instability.“In this time of global crisis, we have to make a resolution keeping duty paramount and fulfil it with complete dedication,” he said. “A big resolution is to use petrol and diesel sparingly. We must curb our use of petrol and diesel.”

By encouraging remote work and virtual meetings, the government appears to be pushing for lower daily commuting and reduced fuel demand, especially in large cities. The Prime Minister also said people should use metros and public transport wherever possible and adopt carpooling when private vehicles are necessary.
PM Modi also urged India to save fuel, buy less gold and take fewer foreign trips
Modi’s speech went beyond office culture and entered areas of everyday lifestyle spending. He urged people to reduce unnecessary foreign travel and avoid overseas vacations and destination weddings for at least a year to help conserve foreign exchange reserves.“The growing culture of weddings abroad, travelling abroad, and vacationing abroad is becoming prevalent among the middle class. We must decide that during this time of crisis, we should postpone travelling abroad for at least a year,” he said.

A Covid-era playbook for an economic challenge
Several of the measures mentioned by Modi echoed practices widely adopted during the pandemic years, including virtual conferences, remote working and limited travel. This time, however, the focus is economic rather than medical.PM Modi said international conflicts were affecting global markets, energy security and supply chains, making responsible consumption important for the country. “What is the importance of energy security... every person in the world is feeling it today,” he said.
He added that India was investing heavily in cleaner and alternative energy sources, including solar power, ethanol blending, CNG transport systems and piped gas infrastructure.
PM also asks families and farmers to change habits
The Prime Minister’s suggestions also extended to homes and farms. He encouraged families to reduce edible oil consumption, saying it would help both personal health and the country’s economic health.Farmers were asked to reduce chemical fertiliser use by 50 percent and move towards natural farming practices to reduce import dependence and protect soil quality.
He also promoted the use of solar-powered irrigation pumps instead of diesel-powered systems in agriculture.
Telangana projects inaugurated during the visit
During the Telangana event, Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects related to roads, railways, petroleum and textile infrastructure. Major projects included the four-laning of National Highway-167 on the Hyderabad-Panaji Economic Corridor, railway multi-tracking works on parts of the Kazipet-Vijayawada route, development projects in the Zaheerabad Industrial Area and a Greenfield Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants terminal in Hyderabad. The Prime Minister also inaugurated the PM MITRA Park in Warangal, which the government described as the country’s first fully operational PM MITRA textile park. The speech, however, drew the most attention for its unusual public appeal, asking people to rethink commuting, travel and spending habits in response to a changing global economic situation.
