PM work from home news
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday did more than just ask Indians to work from home again. During his speech in Hyderabad, Modi rolled out a wide-ranging public appeal touching fuel use, foreign travel, shopping habits, farming practices and even cooking oil consumption. The Prime Minister linked these suggestions to rising global uncertainty, energy security concerns and the economic impact of international conflicts.

PM Modi Work From Home Update: Here’s the full list of what PM Modi urged Indians to do:

1. Work from home again where possible

Modi asked offices and businesses to bring back Covid-era work practices in the “national interest”.

He said:

  • Work-from-home systems should be encouraged
  • Online conferences should replace unnecessary physical meetings
  • Virtual meetings can help reduce travel and fuel consumption
“We must prioritise work from home, online conferences, and virtual meetings again,” he said.

2. Use less petrol and diesel

The Prime Minister repeatedly stressed the need to cut fuel consumption.

He urged citizens to:

  • Use petrol and diesel sparingly
  • Avoid unnecessary vehicle use
  • Reduce dependence on imported fuel
“A big resolution is to use petrol and diesel sparingly. We must curb our use of petrol and diesel,” Modi said.

3. Use metro trains and public transport more often

Modi suggested that people living in cities with metro connectivity should prefer public transport over private vehicles.

4. Start carpooling

The suggestion was aimed at cutting both fuel consumption and traffic pressure in cities.

5. Use electric vehicles more

The Prime Minister also promoted wider use of EVs.

He encouraged people who already own electric vehicles to maximise their usage instead of relying on petrol or diesel vehicles.

6. Shift goods transport towards railways

Apart from personal travel, Modi also spoke about goods transportation.

He urged businesses and transporters to:

  • Prefer railway transport for movement of goods
  • Reduce dependence on fuel-heavy road transport wherever possible

7. Avoid foreign holidays and overseas weddings

One of the strongest appeals in Modi’s speech was about foreign travel.

He asked Indians to:

  • Avoid unnecessary foreign trips
  • Postpone overseas vacations
  • Cut down on destination weddings abroad
“The growing culture of weddings abroad, travelling abroad, and vacationing abroad is becoming prevalent among the middle class. We must decide that during this time of crisis, we should postpone travelling abroad for at least a year,” he said.

8. Choose domestic tourism instead

Alongside reducing foreign travel, Modi encouraged citizens to spend more within India.

He suggested:

  • Taking holidays inside India
  • Holding celebrations within the country
  • Supporting domestic tourism

9. Avoid buying non-essential gold for one year

The Prime Minister also requested citizens to temporarily reduce gold purchases.

He said cutting non-essential gold buying could help reduce pressure on foreign exchange reserves and imports.

10. Buy Made-in-India products

Modi asked citizens to prioritise locally manufactured products in daily life.

He specifically mentioned:

  • Shoes
  • Bags
  • Accessories
  • Everyday-use products
The appeal aligned with the government’s push for domestic manufacturing.

11. Reduce edible oil consumption

The Prime Minister also spoke about household food habits.

He urged families to consume less edible oil, saying it would:

  • Improve personal health
  • Benefit the country economically by reducing imports

12. Farmers should reduce chemical fertiliser use

Modi also addressed farmers directly.

He urged them to:

  • Reduce chemical fertiliser use by 50 percent
  • Move towards natural farming
  • Protect soil health

13. Use solar-powered pumps in farming

The Prime Minister encouraged farmers to switch from diesel-powered irrigation pumps to solar-powered alternatives.

The move, he suggested, would reduce fuel dependence in agriculture.

14. Treat responsible living as patriotism

Beyond individual suggestions, Modi said patriotism during difficult times is also about responsible behaviour.

He said citizens could support the country not just through sacrifice, but also through everyday decisions that reduce economic pressure during global crises.
