PM Modi inaugurates new locomotive manufacturing plant in Dahod, Gujarat to boost Indian Railways; Watch video

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated an Indian Railways Locomotive Manufacturing Plant in Dahod, Gujarat, marking a major step forward in boosting the country's railway infrastructure and freight capabilities. He also flagged off the first electric locomotive produced at the facility. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel were present at the event.


As per an official statement from the Prime Minister's Office, the PM inaugurated the manufacturing plant as part of his vision to improve connectivity and develop world-class travel infrastructure. The facility is set to manufacture 9000 HP electric locomotives for both domestic use and export, the release noted.


The new locomotives will boost Indian Railways' freight capacity and feature regenerative braking systems, aimed at lowering energy consumption and supporting environmental sustainability. After the inauguration, the Prime Minister is scheduled to lay the foundation stone and launch various development projects in Dahod, totaling over ₹24,000 crore.

During his two-day visit to Gujarat from May 26 to 27, PM Modi held a roadshow in Vadodara earlier today. He expressed his heartfelt thanks to the people of Vadodara, calling the roadshow “extremely delightful.”

The Prime Minister also appreciated the warm welcome and blessings he received from the citizens. Taking to X, PM Modi said, "Thank you, Vadodara! It was a wonderful morning roadshow in this great city. Grateful to everyone who showered their blessings."
