During his visit to Italy, Narendra Modi today gifted a packet of Melody Toffee to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. This comes amid an enduring bonhomie between the two leaders, often referred to as 'Melodi' together -- a reference to the combination of their surnames. The Italian PM uploaded a video of the interaction on social media, showing PM Modi presenting the toffee. In the video, she described it as a “very, very good toffee.”


PM Modi's Italy visit

Earlier yesterday, PM Modi met Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni over dinner in Rome on Tuesday evening soon after arriving in the country. The two leaders later also visited the iconic Colosseum, where they held an extended conversation covering a wide range of issues.


PM shares details on X

Sharing moments from the visit on X, PM Modi said: “Upon landing in Rome, had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Meloni over dinner, followed by a visit to the iconic Colosseum. We exchanged perspectives on a wide range of subjects. Looking forward to our talks today, where we will continue the conversation on how to boost the India-Italy friendship.”


In another post, Meloni welcomed the Indian Prime Minister warmly, writing: “Welcome to Rome, my friend!”
She also shared photographs of the leaders at the historic Colosseum, highlighting their informal interaction during the visit.

PM Modi’s visit comes at a time of growing momentum in India-Italy ties. Both countries are working on advancing the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–2029, which lays out cooperation across key sectors.

These include trade, which reached USD 16.77 billion in 2025, and foreign direct investment, which stood at USD 3.66 billion between April 2000 and September 2025. Defence, clean energy, innovation, science and technology, and people-to-people exchanges are also part of the broader partnership framework.

PM Modi's five-nation tour

Before arriving in Italy, PM Modi was in Norway for the fourth leg of his five-nation tour. Earlier, he visited Sweden, the Netherlands, and the United Arab Emirates as part of the diplomatic outreach.
