A 25-year-old man, Manav Sharma, who worked as a manager at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Mumbai, died by suicide in Agra on February 24. Before ending his life, he recorded a six-minute, 57-second video expressing distress over his marriage and urging society to acknowledge men's struggles.

Manav Sharma's Family alleges harassment

Manav, a resident of Defense Colony in Agra, had recently married on January 30, 2024. According to his father, retired Air Force officer Narendra Sharma, his son's marriage initially seemed stable but soon turned turbulent. Manav allegedly faced threats of false accusations from his wife, who also expressed a desire to live with her boyfriend.

On February 23, Manav and his wife returned to Agra from Mumbai. Later that day, after dropping her at her maternal home, he was reportedly threatened by her family. The next morning, he took his own life.

Manav Sharma's Distressing message in final video

In the video he recorded before his death, Manav apologised to his parents and urged people to recognize the struggles faced by men. "Please, someone should talk about men. They become very lonely," he said.

Police response and investigation

Initially, the police received no complaint about the incident. However, after a WhatsApp complaint from Manav’s family on Thursday night, officials confirmed that a case is being registered and an investigation is ongoing.

Manav Sharam's Wife denies allegations

Manav’s wife, Nikita Sharma, rejected the accusations and claimed that her husband had been struggling with alcohol addiction and had self-harmed multiple times before.

“He used to drink excessively and had attempted suicide multiple times. I saved him many times. He also assaulted me after drinking. I had informed my in-laws several times, but they ignored my pleas, saying that it was a matter between a husband and a wife and they cannot do much in it,” Nikita said.

She also stated that she had warned Manav’s parents and his sister about the possibility of him taking an extreme step on that day. “People also need to listen to my side of the story,” she added.

Who was Manav Sharma?

According to his LinkedIn profile, Manav was a Senior Process Associate at TCS and had previously worked as a Talent Acquisition Specialist at various organizations. He was a graduate of DAV College, Chandigarh.

Before his death, he recorded a one-minute, 57-second emotional video, which was later discovered by his family. In the clip, he was seen crying and appealing to society to recognize the challenges faced by men. He repeatedly urged people to "think and talk about men" while apologizing to his parents for his decision.

The case is currently under investigation.
