Sonipat: Pitbull attacks and severely injures six-month-old child in Haryana, CCTV captures incident

A six-month-old baby was seriously injured after a Pitbull attacked the child in Haryana’s Sonipat, with the incident captured on a nearby CCTV camera. The attack took place in Sikka Colony while the baby was being taken out for a walk by his aunt. The child was later referred to a hospital in Rohtak, where he is undergoing treatment and his condition is reported to be critical.

CCTV footage shows the woman walking along the street with the baby in her arms when the dog suddenly ran towards them and lunged at the child. The force of the attack caused the woman to lose her balance and fall along with the baby. The dog then grabbed the child in its jaws.

Dog drags baby along road

The woman tried to rescue the child, but the dog continued to hold on. CCTV footage shows the Pitbull dragging the baby along the road while the aunt struggled to pull the child away. People nearby also rushed to the spot and attempted to drive the dog away.

After sustained efforts, the child was rescued from the dog. The baby suffered multiple serious injuries in the attack, while the aunt was also injured as she tried to protect the child. The infant was taken to hospital for treatment and was subsequently referred to PGIMS, Rohtak, because of the severity of the injuries.

How the Pitbull attack happened

According to reports, the incident occurred while the baby’s aunt was taking him through the locality. The family said they had no indication that the dog would suddenly approach and attack them.

The incident has caused concern among residents of Sikka Colony. Questions have also been raised about the responsibility of the dog’s owner and whether appropriate safety measures were being followed while keeping the animal in a residential area. However, these concerns have not been established as findings of an official investigation.

Family yet to file police complaint

The baby’s family has reportedly not filed a written police complaint over the incident so far. As a result, the status of any formal police action remains unclear. Reports said the family is currently focused on the child’s treatment.

The CCTV footage has since surfaced publicly, drawing attention to the attack and prompting renewed concerns among local residents about the safety of children and the precautions required when keeping pets in residential neighbourhoods.
