Petrol and diesel prices were hiked across the country on Friday, with oil marketing companies increasing fuel rates by up to Rs 3 per litre with immediate effect amid ongoing fluctuations in global crude oil prices.

According to ANI, the price of petrol in the national capital has risen to Rs 97.77 per litre. The latest hike has pushed petrol prices beyond Rs 100 per litre in several cities. In Kolkata, petrol will now cost Rs 108.74 per litre following an increase of Rs 3.29.

Petrol prices in Mumbai have gone up by Rs 3.14, taking the rate to Rs 106.68 per litre. In Chennai, petrol prices increased by Rs 2.83 and now stand at Rs 103.67 per litre.

State-run oil marketing companies are coming under increasing financial strain as global crude oil prices stay high amid supply disruptions linked to the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

India, the world’s third-largest consumer of oil, has been especially exposed to energy supply disruptions caused by tensions near the Strait of Hormuz, a key passage for global crude shipments. Higher freight, logistics, and input costs have further added to the burden on fuel retailers and manufacturers across industries.

The new fuel prices have come into effect across the country, although retail rates may differ from state to state due to variations in local VAT and dealer commissions. The hike is likely to directly affect transport expenses, inflation outlook, and household budgets.
