Rain puts Chandigarh’s unique petrol langar plan on hold

What if a traditional langar came with a full tank instead of a plate of food? A proposed petrol langar in Chandigarh has caught attention on social media, with videos showing a devotee claiming that people chanting “Jai Mata Di” would be offered fuel coupons.

However, the unusual event has reportedly been postponed because of heavy rain, while petrol pumps named in the videos have distanced themselves from the proposed arrangement.

Chandigarh petrol langar postponed due to rain

According to videos circulating on social media, a man identified as Raja had planned a two-day petrol langar at petrol pumps in Chandigarh’s Sector 7 and Sector 10.

In one of the videos, he claims that the event would offer petrol coupons to devotees. Two-wheeler owners would reportedly be eligible for fuel worth Rs 500, while four-wheeler owners would receive fuel worth Rs 1,000.

A second video shows the same man saying the event had been postponed because of rain. He says the petrol langar would instead be held on Friday at a petrol station in Sector 10.

What is the ‘Jai Mata Di’ petrol langar?

The proposed event appears to be an unconventional take on the traditional concept of langar, where food is offered free of charge.

According to claims made in the circulating videos, people participating in the event would need to chant “Jai Mata Di” to receive the fuel coupons.

Who is behind the Chandigarh fuel langar?

The man seen in the videos is identified as Raja. His associates describe him as a devotee from Amritsar who has been living in Chandigarh for around seven to eight months.

As per a TOI report, his associates also claim that he spends several hours each day chanting “Jai Mata Di” and has previously organised unusual forms of langar.

These allegedly included cash and gold-coin langars, according to people associated with him.

Petrol pumps deny involvement in fuel langar

The petrol pumps mentioned in the videos have reportedly distanced themselves from the proposed event.

Representatives of the establishments said they had no connection with the petrol langar and were not involved in any arrangement with Raja.

They clarified that their businesses operate on a normal retail basis, with fuel supplied to customers who pay for it.

The representatives also said there was no coupon system at their outlets and that they were not involved in any transaction or arrangement concerning the proposed event.

Why the petrol langar has gone viral

The idea of offering petrol as a form of langar has naturally sparked curiosity online, particularly because of the rising cost of fuel and the unusual nature of the proposed giveaway.

The circulating videos have also fuelled interest in whether the event will actually take place after being postponed because of the rain.

For now, however, the petrol pumps named in the videos have made it clear that they are not associated with the proposed fuel distribution.

Chandigarh petrol langar: What happens next?

According to the latest video claim, the event could be held on Friday at a petrol station in Sector 10 after being postponed because of heavy rain.

However, given that the petrol pumps have denied any involvement, details about the proposed petrol langar remain based on claims made in social media videos.

Whether the unusual ‘Jai Mata Di’ fuel langar goes ahead as claimed remains to be seen.
