Petrol Diesel prices May 7
India is bracing for a rise in prices of petrol and diesel, especially as global oil prices swung sharply in the previous session and the election results being announced. There has been no significant change in the prices of petrol and diesel on May 7, 2026, Thursday. Bangalore, Patna, and Lucknow specifically saw a change of a few paise in petrol or diesel prices.

Petrol, Diesel prices today

The government sources have not ruled out the hike in fuel prices in the near-future, as losses mount from a four-year-old freeze in retail rates despite the sharp rise in global crude oil prices. Oil marketing companies are selling petrol and diesel at a loss of Rs 14 per litre and Rs 18 per litre, respectively.

In Delhi, petrol is still selling at Rs 94.77 per litre, while diesel is priced at Rs 87.67 per litre. Rates are comparatively steeper in Mumbai, where petrol is being sold at Rs 103.50 per litre and diesel at about Rs 90.01 per litre.

Hike in petrol, diesel prices soon?

Rumours were rife on social media about the hike in fuel prices in the country, which prompted the Press Information Bureau's fact-check unit to deny the claims that the Central government has increased petrol and diesel prices.

"This order is #FAKE. The Government of India has NOT issued any such Order. Always VERIFY such news only through official government sources,” clarified the PIB Fact Check in its post on X. Earlier, the fake post, which was viral on social media spaces, had claimed that the petroleum ministry had hiked the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 10 and Rs 12.5, respectively.

An increase in petrol and diesel prices in the near future is not ruled out, government sources told PTI. Government sources said the possibility of a petrol and diesel price hike in the near future is not ruled out.

Hike in LPG commercial cylinder prices

Despite the increasing pressure to hike fuel prices amid disruptions caused by the Iran war, the Centre has decided to leave domestic LPG prices unchanged. A 14.2-kg domestic cylinder continues to cost Rs 913 in Delhi.

However, prices of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders have been sharply increased by an average of Rs 993. In Delhi, the price of a commercial cylinder has risen to Rs 3,071.50 from Rs 2,078.50 earlier. In Mumbai, rates have gone up from Rs 2,031 to Rs 3,024.

Notably, this is the third increase in commercial LPG cylinder prices since the Iran war began on February 28. Prices were first raised by Rs 144 in March, followed by another hike of nearly Rs 200 on April 1.
