Due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East involving Iran, Israel and the United States, global crude oil prices have remained volatile in recent days. The crisis has raised concerns about potential disruptions to oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical energy chokepoint through which nearly 20% of global oil supply passes.

However, the government has assured that there is no shortage of LPG, petrol or diesel in the country and urged people not to panic amid reports of increased demand in some areas. "We have sufficient petrol and diesel available. There is no shortage at any petrol pump,” it said. “Therefore, do not believe rumours and avoid panic buying. There has been no increase in the price of petrol and diesel,” the government said.

Petrol and diesel prices in India have remained unchanged since May 2022, following tax reductions by the central government and several state governments.
