Govt to hike fuel prices?
There is a growing chatter on social media that the prices of petrol and diesel might increase anytime soon since the elections are over. Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, also claimed that fuel prices could see an increase in the coming weeks.Amid the viral rumours, the government has stepped in to clarify that the prices of petrol, diesel will remain unchanged. The viral message, widely shared across platforms, claimed that petrol prices had been hiked by ₹10 per litre and diesel by ₹12.50 per litre, presenting it as an official notification from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
However, the PIB Fact Check unit clarified that the document is fake and advised citizens to rely only on verified government sources for accurate information.
"An order circulating on social media claims to be issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, stating that petrol and diesel prices have been increased by ₹10 and ₹12.50, respectively. This order is fake. The Government of India has NOT issued any such Order." PIB posted on X.
