Petrol, Diesel price hiked again on May 26? Check latest rates in Delhi, Gurgaon, Faridabad and other cities as CNG gets costlier

The prices of petrol and diesel have remained stable on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, even as the Compressed natural gas (CNG) prices in Delhi-NCR were hiked by Rs 2 per kg, taking the retail price to Rs 83.09 per kg. The fresh hike in fuel prices were announced on Monday, May 25, and the rates were increased by Rs 2.61–2.71 per litre. Petrol and diesel prices have now reached their highest levels since May 2022.

The petrol and diesel prices were hiked as state-run fuel retailers continued passing on the impact of elevated global crude oil prices to consumers.

Petrol, Diesel prices in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad

After Monday’s revision, petrol prices climbed to Rs 102.12 per litre from the earlier Rs 99.51, while diesel rates increased to Rs 95.20 per litre from Rs 92.49 in Delhi. In Kolkata, petrol and diesel prices increased to Rs 113.51 and Rs 99.82 per litre, respectively.

The petrol in Telangana (Hyderabad) is currently at Rs 115.69, while diesel prices are at Rs 103.82 Petrol price in Kerala (Thiruvananthapuram) stands at Rs 115.49, while the diesel price is at Rs 104.40. Petrol prices at public sector fuel stations in Mumbai rose to Rs 111.21 per litre, while diesel touched Rs 97.83.

For Bengaluru, the petrol price is now at Rs 110.93, while the diesel per litre rate is at Rs 98.80. In Chennai, petrol is now priced at Rs 107.77 per litre and diesel at Rs 99.55. Here is the latest rate of petrol and diesel in different cities:

Fourth petrol, diesel hike in 11 days

Petrol and diesel prices were first increased on May 15, 2026 and since then have seen three more hikes in a span of just 11 days. The prices were increased by around Rs 3 per litre for the first time in four years. Petrol price was increased by 87 paise and diesel price was hiked by 91 paise on May 19, 2026.

Petrol and diesel prices were raised by 87-91 paise per litre on May 23, 2026. Now, following the latest revision today, the cumulative increase in fuel prices since May 15 has approached nearly Rs 7.5 per litre.

Why are petrol and diesel prices rising?

The repeated fuel price hikes come after global crude oil prices surged by more than 50% since late February, following US-Israeli strikes on Iran and disruptions in shipments through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz — a key route for global oil transportation.

For nearly two-and-a-half months after the conflict began, fuel retailers had kept petrol and diesel prices unchanged despite increasing input costs. The government had said the decision was aimed at protecting consumers from rising inflation.

However, Opposition parties alleged that the Centre delayed the fuel price hikes until the completion of key state elections. State-run fuel retailers — Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited — together control nearly 90% of India’s fuel retail market.
