Perez Hilton

Authorities from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office visited Perez Hilton’s residence on Tuesday night following reports of a TikTok livestream allegedly showing self-harm. Clips circulating online appeared to show the celebrity blogger covered in what looked like blood and repeatedly injuring himself with an object.

Speculation Around Post-Sepsis Syndrome

The incident has triggered widespread concern about Hilton’s mental health. Some social media users have speculated that his behavior could be linked to post-sepsis syndrome (PSS), a condition that can develop after severe sepsis. However, there is no medical confirmation or public evidence supporting these claims.

Hilton’s Severe Sepsis Battle

Earlier this year, Hilton revealed he had survived a life-threatening episode of sepsis. He shared that his illness began with flu-like symptoms and medication taken without food, which led to complications including an ulcer and a perforation.

Perez detailed, “People die of sepsis. The day before I was hospitalized, I was in so much stomach pain. I was like, ‘This is weird, but it will go away.’ The next morning, I couldn’t walk. I had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital.”

He further recalled, “The sepsis just kept working and my body kept falling apart,” describing his prolonged hospitalization and treatment.

Hilton underwent laparoscopic surgery, a procedure to remove fluid from his lungs, and spent nearly three weeks in hospital. Weeks after discharge, he was admitted again due to deep vein thrombosis (DVT), where doctors removed a large blood clot from his leg.

What Is Post-Sepsis Syndrome?

Medical experts define post-sepsis syndrome as a group of long-term complications that can follow recovery from sepsis. According to research from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), symptoms may include memory loss, difficulty concentrating, fatigue, chronic pain, anxiety, and depression. Survivors may also face a higher risk of hospital readmission and reduced overall health.

Some studies suggest severe infections can lead to lasting inflammation in the brain, potentially affecting cognitive function. However, symptoms vary widely, and not all survivors experience these issues.

No Confirmed Link to Recent Incident

Despite online speculation, there has been no official statement from Hilton, medical professionals, or law enforcement connecting the TikTok incident to post-sepsis syndrome.
