Paytm clarifies no disruption to UPI payments following Google Play alert
Paytm clarifies Google Play's alert about UPI handle changes. There is no disruption to regular UPI payments. Only recurring payments need updates. Users must change their @paytm handle to a bank-linked handle. This change is due to NPCI's TPAP mi...

According to Paytm, there is no disruption to UPI payments on its platform, and both consumer and merchant transactions remain seamless. The clarification comes after Google Play issued a message to users regarding updates needed for recurring payments linked to Paytm UPI.
Recurring payments require update, not one-time transactions
Paytm explained that the update is applicable only to recurring payments such as subscription billing. The company stated, "This means that if a user was paying for YouTube Premium or Google One storage or to any recurring platform through Paytm UPI, they will simply need to change their old @paytm handle to the new handle linked to their bank, which is @pthdfc, @ptaxis, @ptyes or @ptsbi."
To illustrate the change, Paytm noted that if a UPI ID was abcd@paytm, it will now be abcd@pthdfc, or another handle corresponding to the user’s bank. The company confirmed that one-time UPI payments are not affected and will continue as usual.
Transition follows NPCI approval and TPAP migration
This update is part of Paytm's ongoing migration to new UPI handles, following the company’s approval from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to function as a Third Party Application Provider (TPAP).
The deadline to complete this update for recurring mandates is 31 August 2025, which is why Google Play issued its alert to users.
Reassuring customers, Paytm stated that this is a simple and necessary update to ensure uninterrupted recurring payments, while all other UPI transactions on the app continue without any changes.
