Pavitra Rishta fame Priya Marathe dies at 38 after brave two-year fight against cancer, fans and co-stars mourn loss

Television actor Priya Marathe, known for her memorable performances in popular Hindi and Marathi shows, passed away on Sunday at her residence in Mira Road, Mumbai, after a prolonged fight with cancer. She was 38.

Marathe carved a special place for herself in the entertainment industry over two decades. She was widely recognised for her roles in Hindi serials such as Pavitra Rishta and Kasamh Se, and earned equal admiration in Marathi television with shows like Char Divas Sasuche, which marked her debut in 2011. Her last appearance was in the 2023 drama Tuzech Mi Geet Gaat Aahe.

Known for her ability to bring depth and authenticity to every role, Marathe built a career that resonated with audiences across languages and genres.

A cousin’s heartfelt farewell

Actor Subodh Bhave, her co-star and cousin, shared an emotional tribute on social media.

“A great actress, some of my co-star in series and movies. But for me, the relationship was more important with her. Priya, my cousin sister. The hard work she took after coming to this field, her faith in work were very commendable,” Bhave wrote.

Reflecting on her final years, he added, “That cancer didn’t leave her. It was during filming of our series Tu Metshi Navane that she faced a lot of trouble. Her partner throughout this journey, @shantanusmoghe, stood strongly with her. My sister was a fighter, but finally her strength fell short. I pray that you find peace wherever you are.”

Marathe’s family, friends, and colleagues have remembered her as a dedicated professional and a resilient spirit who never let illness define her.

Despite battling cancer for more than two years, she continued to pursue her craft until her health made it impossible.

She is survived by her husband, actor Shantanu Moghe, who stood by her side through her illness.

Priya Marathe’s passing leaves a void in both the Hindi and Marathi entertainment industries.

To her fans, she will be remembered for her compelling performances; to her family and colleagues, she will always remain the spirited fighter whose passion for her art inspired those around her.
