Patient dies in ambulance after door gets jammed for half an hour in Kerala

In an unfortunate incident, a 66-year old patient lost his life in an ambulance in Kozhikode, Kerala after an ambulance door failed to open. According to local reports, the ambulance door got jammed for half an hour.

The deceased, Koyamon, was hit down by a two-wheeler on Monday when he was coming out of a hotel after having lunch. A two-wheeler knocked him down when he was crossing the highway.

He was immediately rushed to nearby Beach hospital where his condition deteriorated. The doctor decided to shift the patient to other hospital for better treatment. He was taken to the Kozhikode Medical College in an ambulance. However, after reaching the Kozhikode Medical College, the ambulance in which he was brought failed to open as the door got jammed.


According to eyewitnesses account, several people including the driver of the ambulance tried their best to open the jammed ambulance door to take out the patient, but they succeeded only after an axe was used to break open the door. In the meantime around 30 precious minutes were lost. By the time the door got opened, the patient had already passed away.

The hospital authorities have announced an investigation into the unfortunate incident.
