Pathaan craze continues in Kashmir as valley witnesses houseful shows for the first time after 33 years

Pathaan has ended the valley's three-decade cinematic drought, with Shah Rukh Khan-starrer attracting long lines from Kashmiris, making it the first film to play to packed houses in the region after 33 years.

Due to terrorist threats and attacks, Kashmir's movie theaters were closed for more than thirty years before they were reopened last year. But now, Pathaan brings a smile back to moviegoers' faces.

Speaking to the media, Vikas Dhar, owner of Kashmir's lone multiplex theater, said that the screening of Pathaan was houseful on the first day.


He also stated that five of the seven Republic Day shows were sold out. Speaking about why the first two performances were less crowded than anticipated, he said that it was because of limitations on pedestrian mobility caused by the Republic Day procession near the multiplex in the Badamibagh neighbourhood of the city.

In September of last year, Dhar inaugurated his multiplex theater. The theater has three screens with a combined seating capacity of 520.

He claimed that after 33 years, there are now lines of people waiting to watch movies in Kashmir, which was his goal when he started this enterprise and has now come true.

"Pathaan," which was released on January 25 amid controversy, has had an amazing run at the box office, earning a total of Rs 219.6 crore in only two days. Dhar claimed that the controversy has had little impact on the film's box office performance, much like the rest of the nation.
