Passenger held at Delhi airport for carrying dollars worth Rs 15 lakh in papad packets

According to reports, the passenger was intercepted during security checks at Terminal-III of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport when he was trying to catch the flight.

An Indian traveller to Bangkok has been arrested at the Delhi airport for carrying US dollars worth over Rs 15 lakh by allegedly concealing them inside 'papad' packets.

According to reports, the passenger was intercepted during security checks at Terminal-III of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport when he was trying to catch the flight.

A total of $19,900 (worth about Rs 15.5 lakh at current value) was found concealed inside boxes marked as spices, and between layers of 'papad' packets.


The man was offloaded from the Air Vistara flight to Bangkok and handed over to Customs authorities by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel after he was unable to furnish a valid authorisation for carrying such a big amount of foreign currency.
