'Papa kehte hain': Uttarakhand police's tweet against fancy number plates is a big hit

Police in Uttarakhand have used humour, and reworked lyrics of a chartbuster song from the 1980's, to drive home a message - no fancy, illegible number plates on your vehicles.

It was when a young man in the state decided to use the number plate to show his gratitude to his papa for buying him a good car. The vehicle number 4141 was modified to read 'PAPA' as it would be written in the Devanagari script.

The cops were not very appreciative of his creativity. The car owner was summoned, forced to pay a fine, and made to change his number plate. Pictures of the old and new plates were tweeted out from the Uttarakhand Police handle, together with an advice: such adventures could get you a challan.



What Twitter users really liked was how the police put the message out. They played with the word PAPA , and reworked lyrics of the superhit song 'Papa Kehte hain bada naam karega' from Aamir Khan's leading debut film 'Qayamat se Qayamat Tak'.

Following this tweet, many netizens also reported similar cases on Twitter, and one got a special mention of 'Lord Ram'. The number was 214.
