With ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ now released, a look inside Tripathi’s home offers a glimpse into his idea of a perfect escape — a spacious, village-inspired retreat centred around nature, traditional touches and simple living.
Pankaj Tripathi fulfilled his dream of owning a home in 2019
According to GQ India, Tripathi, who has spent more than two decades in the entertainment industry, fulfilled his dream of owning a home in 2019. Located on Madh Island, the property offers an uninterrupted view of the Arabian Sea.Unlike the more lavish homes associated with Bollywood celebrities, Tripathi’s residence has a minimalistic design with a distinctly rural feel. The property features an expansive entrance, lush greenery and an all-white exterior. The actor named the house ‘Roop Katha’.
Inside, the home features wooden furniture crafted by artisans from Mysore, carefully selected artefacts, plenty of plants, large windows and a spacious, well-equipped kitchen.
A village-inspired retreat in Mumbai
Tripathi previously gave fans a virtual tour of his holiday home during a 2023 interaction with Mashable India. The tour showed how the actor brought elements of his village lifestyle into his Mumbai retreat. From earthy interiors and traditional furniture to open green spaces, the home reflects his preference for a quieter and more grounded way of living.
The regal entrance of Pankaj Tripathi’s house
The entrance of ‘Roop Katha’ has an elegant, almost regal appearance, with pillars leading into sprawling lawns. The all-white exterior adds to the understated look of the property while the surrounding greenery gives it a relaxed, countryside feel.A kitchen designed around simple living
The kitchen is spacious and fully equipped, but several details give it a distinctly earthy character. A large window opens towards the garden, and Tripathi has explained that it can be used to pass freshly prepared pakodas directly outside. The actor also prefers drinking naturally cooled water from an earthen pot instead of refrigerated water. A traditional mud stove adds another rustic element to the kitchen and allows him to prepare homestyle meals.
Traditional artefacts and Mysore craftsmanship
The interiors feature two distinctive artefacts gifted to Tripathi by the divisional forest officer of Kaziranga National Park — a one-horned rhinoceros and a tusker. The dining area features a rosewood table made by artisans from Mysore. Large windows bring in plenty of natural light, complementing the wooden furniture, plants and traditional elements across the home.
A garden that doubles up as a retreat
One of the most striking parts of Tripathi’s home is its expansive garden, surrounded by tall trees and greenery. The actor grows seasonal produce such as mangoes and kathal there. The outdoor space is also used for bird watching and can even double as a makeshift football field, making the garden more than just a decorative part of the property.
Pankaj Tripathi’s upcoming film
On the work front, Tripathi was seen in ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’, directed by Gurmeet Singh. The film features Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Jitendra Kumar, Ravi Kishan, Abhishek Banerjee, Rasika Dugal, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Gaur, Sushant Singh, Mohit Malik, Sheeba Chaddha, Rajesh Tailang, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Anjum Sharma, Sonal Chauhan, Pramod Pathak and Anangsha Biswas.Pankaj Tripathi's Kaleen Bhaiya character has once again found a strong connection with audiences as 'Mirzapur: The Movie' continues its theatrical run, taking the much-loved franchise from the OTT space to the big screen.
Reflecting on the challenges of making that transition, Tripathi had earlier spoken about how the larger format changes the scale and presentation of the story, while maintaining that the fundamental craft of an actor remains the same.
"The landscape is new, and the scale is bigger," Tripathi said in a conversation with ANI, while discussing the move from the three-season series to a theatrical film.
The actor's comments offer an insight into what goes into bringing a franchise that audiences have traditionally watched at home into cinemas, where the viewing experience is collective and the scale considerably larger.
"People would have seen it on a 5-inch to a 100-inch screen. It was individual viewing. Now, it is coming for community viewing. Four hundred to five hundred people will see it together, and the screen is much bigger- 20 to 30 feet," he said.
