Pakistan's PSL to be played without DRS and Hawkeye as Indian technicians do not return after India-Pakistan conflict

The remaining matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will be played without Hawkeye and DRS (Decision Review System) after Indian technicians, who manage these technologies, reportedly did not return to Pakistan following recent hostilities between India and Pakistan. The PSL was suspended after India carried out missile strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, two weeks after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 people dead.

Technological setback after conflict

Several reports stated that the team responsible for managing Hawkeye and DRS systems has not returned to Pakistan. "Which means that the last few remaining matches of the PSL will now be completed without any DRS which is a big blow to the board and teams," the source said.

Most of the broadcaster’s crew were Indian nationals. After the league was suspended due to the conflict, they returned to India and have not come back because of the ongoing tension.

PCB unable to shift matches to UAE

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) explored the option of completing the PSL in the UAE. However, the Emirates Cricket Board declined the proposal. This left the PCB with limited options to resume the league.

Franchises struggle with foreign player exits

In addition to the absence of DRS, several franchises are facing difficulties due to overseas players leaving. Some, including Mitchell Owens and Kusal Mendis, chose to join the Indian Premier League. On Thursday, Islamabad United lost a key player when England’s Alex Hales flew back home ahead of their eliminator match scheduled for Friday.

Challenges continue for PSL organisers

The PSL, now in its 10th season, is dealing with multiple setbacks as the PCB works to resume and complete the tournament amid strained cross-border relations and logistical issues.
