As per reports, a Pakistani boxer disappeared in Italy after stealing money from fellow player's bag. The Pakistan Amateur Boxing Federation revealed this on Tuesday.
The boxer, identified as Zohaib Rasheed, was in Italy to take part in an Olympic qualifying tournament.
Dubbing it as a major embarassment for the country, a senior official of the federation said they reported the incident to the Pakistan Embassy in Italy and filed a police report.
"It is most embarrassing for the federation and country the way Zohaib Rasheed has behaved as he had gone there as part of a five-member squad to take part in an Olympic qualifying tournament," the national federation's secretary, Colonel Nasir Ahmed said.
Rasheed, who won a bronze medal at the Asian Boxing Championships last year, was considered a promising talent in Pakistan.
According to Nasir, Rasheed took the room keys of a female boxer named Laura Ikram and stole foreign currency from her purse before disappearing from the hotel.
The police are currently searching for him, but he has not been in contact with anyone. Unfortunately, this is not the first time a Pakistani athlete has left a national squad while abroad in search of a better future
