Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif elicits laughter from President Putin, Twitter has a field day

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is the latest political leader to become the internet's target after he embarrassed himself in front of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Sharif, during a one-on-one interaction with Putin, elicited laughter from the Russian leader after his earpiece fell out of his ear and he struggled to put the device back in his ear.

Pakistan's Prime Minister was caught red-faced in front of the media and Putin after the incident, which took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Samarkand.


Sharif quickly became the target of his predecessor Imran Khan's supporters, who took to Twitter with the clip of the current Prime Minister fumbling.

The tweet was followed up with a comparison of Imran Khan's own meeting with the Russia premier.

The Pakistan Prime Minister is in Samarkand - where he arrived on Thursday - to be part of the annual meeting of the SCO's Council of Heads of State.

During the one-on-one, Putin reportedly told Sharif that the installation of a pipeline for the supply of gas to Pakistan from Moscow is possible.

Scheduled for September 15 and 16, the SCO meet is being attended by leaders of eight nations - including India - who will discuss the strategy, prospects and priorities of the organisation.
