Pakistan Cricket Board appoints Shahid Afridi as interim chair of selection committee
Shahid Afridi, a former captain of Pakistan, was appointed as the temporary chairman of the National Selection Committee by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The committee's job is to evaluate the Test team that was declared by the previous panel, which was presided over by Mohammad Wasim.
The new PCB executive committee terminated the prior Pakistani head selector Wasim’s contract, which was overseen by Najam Sethi, leading to Afridi's appointment. Additionally, all committees created under the revoked 2019 constitution have been disbanded.
This method was expected to last till the ODI World Cup 2023 when Wasim was named chief selector in December 2020. He was sacked over email on 23rd December.

Pakistan played 16 tests in Wasims’s leadership, winning eight of them and losing six of them, including two home series against England (1-0) and Australia (3-0).
Pakistan made it to the final of the men's T20 World Cup in 2022. During Wasim's leadership, Pakistan played 55 T20Is, winning 34 and losing 18. In addition, of the 15 ODIs, Pakistan won 10 and lost five.
Shahid Afridi, on the other hand, participated in 27 Tests, 398 ODIs, and 99 T20Is between 1996 and 2018, during which time he amassed a total of 11,196 runs and claimed 541 wickets. In 83 international games, he also served as captain of the national team. He played for the Pakistani team that defeated Australia to win the 2009 ICC Men's T20 World Cup at Lord's.
