PagerDuty CEO faces backlash for quoting Martin Luther King Jr. in layoff email
Jennifer Tejada, CEO of PagerDuty, also referred to the employment reductions as "refinements" rather than "layoffs." Twitter users, who read the email, criticised her for announcing the layoffs and then praising staff advancements in the same email.

Tejada revealed a few further changes in a 1,700-word email, such as the elevation of some executives and the decrease in spending. The email was also posted on the business's website. She called the workers "Dutonians" and described the layoffs as a "refinement." The CEO ended the announcement by quoting Martin Luther King Jr., who once remarked that "the ultimate measure of a (leader) is not where (they) stand in the moments of comfort and ease, but where (they) stand in times of challenge and controversy."
The email attracted criticism on social media, with many labelling it "disgusting" and "tone deaf." Tejada's email follows a wave of tech layoffs that have drawn criticism for lacking empathy and humanity. It alternates between sombre corporate-speak, such dubbing the layoffs refinements and upbeat remarks praising the "truly gifted individuals who bring themselves to work. Many people criticised her for giving out and celebrating promotions to certain employees in the same email that discussed the employment decrease.
