Padma Awards 2023: Sudha Murty gets Padma Bhushan, recognizes her contributions as educator, author, and more

Distinguished educator, author, and philanthropist Sudha Murty was awarded the Padma Bhushan 2023 by the government of India for her contributions in the field of social work. The award was presented to her on the eve of the 74th Republic Day of India.

This is not the first time that Murty has been recognized for her contributions in the field of social work. In 2006, she was also awarded the Padma Shri, which is given for distinguished service in any field.





Murty retired as its chairperson of Infosys Foundation in 2021. Sudha Murty is making a significant impact in the field of education and philanthropy. Since starting the foundation in 1996, Murty has been a strong advocate for educating girls and has also founded various orphanages and contributed to rural development in the state of Karnataka.

In addition to her philanthropic efforts, Murty is also an accomplished author. Some of her notable works include Dollar Bahu, Grandma Bag of Stories, The Mother I Never Knew, and many others in both English and Kannada.

Murty's career in engineering began as one of the first female engineers hired at TATA Electronic and Locomotive Company (TELCO), India's largest auto manufacturer. She graduated with a B.E from BVB College of Engineering and Technology, now known as KLE Technological University.
