On the eve of the start of operations at Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), a spectacular drone show featuring 1,515 drones was held to mark the occasion. The synchronised drones formed stunning aerial visuals, including 3D lotus blooms, lotus-inspired designs, the airport logo, a green airport theme, an aircraft flying over Mumbai, and the rise of India. The breathtaking display transformed the night sky into a vibrant showcase of innovation and creativity.

The event was attended by NMIA staff, local youth athletes, and specially abled guests, who witnessed the captivating performance at the site. Navi Mumbai International Airport Private Limited (NMIAL), the entity responsible for developing and operating the airport, is a public-private partnership between Mumbai International Airport Limited (a subsidiary of Adani Airports Holdings Limited), which holds a 74% stake, and the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Limited (CIDCO), which owns the remaining 26%.

Navi Mumbai International Airport (IATA: NMI; ICAO: VANM) is set to become one of India’s busiest and most important aviation hubs. Strategically located in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, the airport is designed to serve the growing air traffic demands of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and western India.

Spread across 1,160 hectares (2,866 acres), NMIA will have the capacity to handle up to 90 million passengers annually once fully operational. The airport will feature two parallel runways, advanced terminal infrastructure, and modern cargo facilities to ensure smooth passenger movement and efficient logistics.

Designed as a greenfield airport, NMIA emphasises sustainability with eco-friendly infrastructure, renewable energy usage, and green building practices. Its fluid, futuristic architecture draws inspiration from the lotus, India’s national flower.
