Oracle layoffs: ‘6am job cuts’ return as ‘We are sharing some difficult news’ email tells employees ‘your role has been eliminated’

A woman’s LinkedIn post about her husband losing his job after 12 years at Oracle has resonated with users online, as she recounted the years of dedication and personal sacrifices she says he made for his work.

“My husband Sourabh lost his job today,” Pooja Sahu wrote in the post. She said that after spending 12 years at Oracle, her husband did not even receive a formal conversation about his termination. Instead, he realised he had lost his job after being unable to log in to his work system.

Sahu’s post highlighted the extent to which Sourabh had remained committed to his job over the years. She recalled that he continued working from a hospital while she was admitted for surgery to remove polyps. During a family vacation in New Mexico, she said, Sourabh remained on call while she drove.

She also said he worked through festivals such as Holi, Diwali and Rakhi, as well as birthdays, anniversaries and weekends.

Another incident involved the couple’s recently adopted dog. According to Sahu, Sourabh continued working late into the night while caring for the pet, sometimes working until 3 a.m. She said he eventually fell ill.

“He always wore a smile and was there to help everyone around him,” she wrote, adding that neither she nor their friends had ever seen him complain about the pressure he faced at work.

Sahu said Sourabh has nearly two decades of experience in the IT industry and had also received a Best Employee Award during his career.

“If you know of any opportunities, please refer him,” she wrote, describing her husband as someone who would be not only a strong team player but “a friend for life.”

LinkedIn post highlights visa uncertainty

The post also touched on a concern familiar to many Indian technology professionals working abroad — uncertainty surrounding work visas. Sahu dedicated part of her message to professionals who work long hours to support their families while simultaneously dealing with uncertainty around their careers and immigration status.

Her appeal was therefore more than a request for job referrals. It also served as a tribute to workers whose years of effort can often go unnoticed until their employment suddenly comes to an end.

Job loss sparks conversation around corporate layoffs

Sourabh’s job loss has also brought attention to the increasingly impersonal nature of corporate restructuring and layoffs, where years of work can sometimes come to an abrupt end with little warning.

For employees, however, the consequences go far beyond losing a job. A sudden termination can affect financial stability, family plans, professional identity and, in the case of employees dependent on work visas, their ability to remain in the country.

For Sourabh, his wife’s post has turned what she described as an abrupt and impersonal job loss into a public show of support and recognition for his years of work.

She ended the post with a message of encouragement: “Sourabh S., better things are coming for you.”
