Oracle India layoffs: Severance packages
The terminated employees were told that after signing their termination paperwork they would be “eligible to receive a severance package subject to the terms and conditions of the severance plan.” The terminated employees were asked to sign the separation documents sent via DocuSign. Employees were also asked to update their personal email addresses to receive follow-up information including FAQs and separation details. In India, the scenario is a little different. Oracle has offered 15 days’ salary for every completed year of service in India, along with one month’s unpaid wages up to the termination date, leave encashment, gratuity as per eligibility, and salary for a one-month notice period.
In addition, Oracle has provided a two-month salary as a top-up. However, this severance package is applicable only to employees who choose to resign voluntarily and amicably.
"In India, around 12,000 employees have been laid off. The company is planning another mass layoff within a month," said two people impacted by the retrenchment, including one from the company's human resource department. The company has approximately 30,000 employees in India, including those affected by the layoffs.
For US employees, Oracle is offering four weeks of base salary for the first year of employment, plus one additional week for every year after that, up to a maximum of 26 weeks. To qualify for a full year in the calculation, employees must have worked at least six months in their last year. The payout will also be adjusted in states with a WARN notice period.
