OnePlus 15 ColorOS 17 beta applications open in India: Check eligibility, steps to apply, deadline, benefits and more

OnePlus has opened applications for the ColorOS 17 Open Beta Test on the OnePlus 15 in India, giving eligible users an opportunity to try the software before its wider release. According to the company’s website, the application window runs from October 9 to October 12. Users must have their phones running one of two specified software versions to qualify.

The company has cautioned that the initial beta build may not include all planned features and could be less stable than official public updates. Some features may become available through subsequent updates.

OnePlus 15 ColorOS 17 beta: Who can apply and how

The Open Beta Program is currently limited to devices in India. Users in other regions will have to wait for further announcements from OnePlus.

To apply, users must ensure their OnePlus 15 is running either software version CPH2745_16.0.10.500(EX01) or CPH2745_16.0.10.601(EX01).

Eligible users can submit their applications by following these steps:

1. Open Settings and go to About device.
2. Tap “Up to date”.
3. Select the menu icon in the top-right corner.
4. Choose “Beta program” and follow the on-screen instructions.

Once an application is approved, the update will be delivered over the air (OTA). Users can then go to Settings, open About device and tap “Download Now” to install it.

OnePlus 15 beta update: Precautions before installation

OnePlus said installing the beta update is not designed to erase the device’s data, but advised users to back up important files before proceeding. The company also recommends having more than 30% battery charge and at least 4GB of free storage.

Some third-party applications may experience compatibility problems after the update, including crashes, lag, black screens and increased power consumption. OnePlus recommends updating apps to their latest versions through the Google Play Store.

The company also warned that background optimisation after installation may temporarily cause the phone to heat up, lag or consume more power than usual. Users are advised to restart their devices after charging for around two hours with the screen off, or after normal use, to allow the system to stabilise.

Carrier-locked devices, including T-Mobile and Verizon variants, are not compatible with these beta builds.

How to roll back to the stable OxygenOS 16 version

Users who want to return to the latest stable public version of OxygenOS 16 can follow OnePlus’s local OTA rollback procedure. However, the company warns that the process will erase all data and content stored on the device, making a backup essential.

The process involves downloading the designated rollback package ZIP file, copying it to the phone’s internal storage and enabling Developer mode by tapping the build number seven times under Settings and About device. After entering the device password when prompted, users can navigate to About device, select “Up to date”, open the menu and choose “Local install”.

They must then select the saved rollback ZIP file, wait for the installation to reach 100% and tap “Restart” to boot into the stable public version.
