Ohio pregnant teen car crash: Mother of 17-year-old wants accused Tarsem Singh "kicked out permanently" from the US
The mother of a 17-year-old pregnant girl who died in a horrific high-speed car crash in Ohio has said she wants the man charged in the case deported from the United States, calling for his permanent removal from the country. The accused, identified as 33-year-old Tarsem Singh, is facing multiple felony charges in connection with the death of teenager Ashlee Holmes and her unborn child following a fatal police chase crash in February.

Mother demands deportation, says she doesn’t want accused in US

Speaking to Newsweek, Ashlee Holmes’ mother, Annette Holmes, expressed anger and grief over the incident and said she wants the accused removed from the country entirely.

“Nobody should ever deserve to die while pregnant with their first kid,” the 40-year-old mother said. "I'm OK with him being kicked out of the country permanently. We came to find out he came here illegally at first. They can send him wherever he is best off because I don't want him in the States no more," she added.

Charges include homicide and involuntary manslaughter

Tarsem Singh, 33, who entered US illegally in 2017, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide, and aggravated vehicular homicide. Federal immigration authorities have also placed a detainer on him, which could lead to deportation proceedings once the criminal case advances.

According to officials, Singh is currently being held on a $1 million bond. His jury trial is scheduled for August 17–21.

High-speed police chase ended in fatal crash

The fatal incident occurred on February 16 after Singh allegedly failed to stop for police, triggering a high-speed pursuit. According to NewsWeek, the Range Rover driven during the chase was first recorded travelling at 79 mph (127 km/h) in a 55 mph zone. Speeds later exceeded 120 mph (193 km/h) as the chase escalated.

The vehicle eventually lost control on a bend, crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a Jeep before overturning multiple times.

Teen ejected from vehicle, unborn child also died

Seventeen year-old Ashlee Holmes was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and suffered fatal injuries. Her unborn child also did not survive. Singh was injured in the crash and airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment.

Relatives described Ashlee Holmes as a bright and compassionate teenager who was deeply loved by her family and friends. She reportedly loved animals, music and spending time with loved ones. Her family said she had dreams of becoming either a veterinarian or a doctor specializing in heart care.

Immigration status under scrutiny

The Department of Homeland Security has said that Singh entered the United States illegally through the southern border in California in February 2017. He was initially arrested but later released on bond following a court order.

The case has now drawn attention both for its criminal charges and the immigration proceedings that may follow after the trial.

Trial scheduled as case draws national attention

With the jury trial set for August, the case is expected to remain in the spotlight due to the severity of the charges, the immigration detainer, and the emotional statements from the victim’s family.

For Ashlee Holmes’ mother, however, the focus remains on one thing — justice and removal of the accused from the country she says her daughter called home.
