Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shrikrishna Lalchandani told PTI that the incident came to light on 13 February after residents reported a foul smell emanating from a locked house in the Dwarkapuri police station area of Indore.
When officers arrived at the property, they discovered the naked body of the young woman inside the rented accommodation of her classmate. The victim was pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at a college in the city, police confirmed.
Accused Arrested in Mumbai
According to DCP Lalchandani, the accused fled Indore following the incident and was later detained in Mumbai. He is currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation.During questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to strangling the woman. Police further stated that he “mistreated” her body after the murder.
Occult Rituals Near Panvel
In a disturbing development, the DCP revealed that the accused performed alleged witchcraft rituals near Panvel in Navi Mumbai while absconding.“The accused claims he was mentally disturbed after the murder and attempted to communicate with the woman’s spirit through witchcraft,” Lalchandani told PTI.
Police said the victim and the accused were in a close relationship. However, investigators believe the accused became suspicious that she was speaking to other men. Enraged by this suspicion, he allegedly killed her and fled the city.
Father Alleges Blackmail and Extortion
Following the discovery of the body, the victim’s father levelled serious allegations against the accused. He claimed the classmate had been attempting to extort money from his daughter by threatening to circulate obscene photographs.According to the father, the accused had allegedly posted objectionable images of the young woman in her college WhatsApp group and was pressuring her for money. He further alleged that the accused tortured her before killing her.
Ongoing Investigation
Police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murder, including the allegations of blackmail and digital harassment.Further details are awaited as interrogation of the accused continues.
