A high-ranking allied diplomat at the United Nations has suspended all official duties after alleging that the international organization is currently preparing for a scenario involving the active use of nuclear weapons against Iran. Mohamad Safa, who has served as the Permanent Representative of the Patriotic Vision Organization (PVA) to the UN for nearly twelve years, issued a public resignation notice on X, claiming he could no longer remain a "witness to this crime against humanity." Safa’s departure comes amid intensifying West Asia hostilities and includes specific accusations that senior UN leadership is suppressing dissent to serve a "powerful lobby" that he claims is engineering a pro-war sentiment through a systemic misinformation campaign regarding Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

"Possible Nuclear Weapon Use in Iran": Safa

In his most recent post on X, Mohamad Safa expressed concern over the lack of public awareness regarding current UN operations. "I don't think people understand the gravity of the situation as the UN is preparing for possible nuclear weapon use in Iran," Safa stated, highlighting that Tehran is a city of nearly 10,000,000 people. He framed his resignation as a whistleblowing action, writing, "I gave up my diplomatic career to leak this information. I suspended my duties so as not to be part of or a witness to this crime against humanity, in an attempt to prevent a nuclear winter before it is too late.".

UN Diplomat Resigned Alleging Nuke Preparation by UN

Safa’s resignation letter detailed a three-year period of increasing frustration, specifically alleging that senior UN officials "abuse their power to serve that lobby" and "effectively shield decision-makers" from designations of war crimes. According to Safa, top officials "refuse to describe what is happening in Gaza as genocide, what is happening in Lebanon as war crimes and ethnic cleansing, that the war on Iran is illegal under international law, that Iran posed no imminent threat to world peace.". He further claimed that his attempts to offer a differing perspective after October 2023 resulted in "death threats for him and his family" and professional abandonment by the UN.

Safa Questions the Credibility of the United Nations

Before his suspension of duties, Mohamad Safa held significant standing within the UN’s consultative framework. Since 2013, he served as the executive director of Patriotic Vision (PVA), an organization with special consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). In 2016, he was nominated as its Permanent Representative, leading the PVA delegation for over a decade under various Secretaries-General and Human Rights Council Presidents. Safa stated that he would not return to his duties until the "reform process outlined by the UN Secretary-General is meaningfully implemented.".

'Iran Nuclear Threat is Misinformation'

According to Safa, senior officials and diplomats have deployed a "misinformation campaign claiming an Iran nuclear threat" to encourage a broader regional war. He alleged that social media algorithms and global media were used to "deceive you into believing that Iran posed an imminent threat to world peace," a tactic he compared to the justifications used for actions in Gaza and Lebanon. He concluded his public appeal by urging the public to "take the streets" and "protest for our humanity and future," asserting that "only the people can stop it.".
