According to the police, Harwinder was sitting on a sofa with relatives when the incident occurred. A loaded pistol was tucked into his waist. CCTV footage from the house shows that as he stood up from the sofa, the firearm went off accidentally, with the bullet hitting him in the stomach.

He was rushed to a government hospital and later referred to Bathinda due to the seriousness of his injuries. However, Harwinder succumbed to his injuries while being taken to Bathinda.
Balluana police station SHO Ravinder Sharma said he visited the house after receiving information about the incident and examined the CCTV footage to ascertain the sequence of events. The incident is being treated as an accidental firing, police said.
AAP leaders, including local MLA Goldy Musafir, along with villagers, reached the government hospital after the incident. Musafir expressed grief over the death and offered condolences to the bereaved family. Harwinder’s father, Darshan Singh, had recently won the panchayat samiti election.
