Nothing has unveiled its new flagship over ear headphones, the Headphone 1 Pro, priced at 399 dollars. The launch comes after the company found success with the Headphone A at 199 dollars and the Ear 3A earbuds under 100 dollars, giving Nothing a full range for buyers at every budget. Details of the headphones were reported by The Verge, which spent time testing the new pair ahead of a full review.

Most flagship headphones use one driver per ear cup. The Sony XM6, Bose Ultra Headphones Gen 2 and AirPods Max 2 all follow this single driver approach. Nothing has gone a different route with three drivers inside each ear cup: a 40mm dynamic driver for bass, a separate driver for the midrange, and a tiny solid state xMEMS driver for higher frequencies. Splitting the range across three drivers lets each one focus on a narrower job, which should make higher frequencies sound faster and cleaner compared to a single driver trying to cover everything.

Tucked away on the inside corner of the left ear cup is a switch that most buyers will never use, but that professionals may love. Flipping it on turns off the EQ and spatial audio processing entirely, giving a flat, unprocessed sound. Nothing built this feature with Metropolis Studios in London, the same recording space where Mark Ronson worked on Amy Winehouse's music.

The headphones support LDAC for high resolution wireless audio up to 24 bit and 96 kHz, along with wired lossless playback over USB-C up to 24 bit and 192 kHz. Auracast support rounds things off, letting the headphones work as either a transmitter or receiver.
