Nora Fatehi summoned again in Rs 200-crore Sukesh Chandrasekhar extortion case, asked to appear in Delhi court on November 6

The Delhi Rouse Avenue court on Monday issued fresh summons to actor Nora Fatehi, asking her to appear on November 6 to record her testimony in the Rs 200-crore extortion case linked to alleged conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar. The development comes after the Delhi Police informed the court that Fatehi had been summoned but it had no confirmation about whether she would appear.

Court questions Nora Fatehi's absence

Fatehi's lawyer filed an application seeking exemption from her personal appearance. However, the court questioned the request, pointing out that she was a witness and was expected to be present.

"She is a witness and was supposed to be here. Her conduct is not upto the mark. Don't take the court for granted," the court remarked.

The court was also informed that a notice had been sent to Fatehi on October 22 through email and WhatsApp. Officials said phone calls had also been made, but no response was received from her.

Earlier summons issued to Nora Fatehi

On October 16, the court had directed that summons be issued to the actor for November 2. The order stated, "Issue summons to Nora Fatehi alias Naura Fatehi (Listed Witness or LW 3 in 3rd Supplementary chargesheet for the said date (of November 2)."

What is the Rs 200-crore extortion case?

The case against Sukesh Chandrasekhar is being investigated by the Delhi Police Special Cell. A court had earlier framed charges against Chandrasekhar, his wife Leena Paulose and other accused under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

These include Section 170, which deals with impersonating a public servant; Section 384, which prescribes punishment for extortion; and Section 386, which deals with extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt.

Charges also framed under MCOCA

Apart from the IPC provisions, charges have also been framed under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), 1999.

The law was introduced to tackle organised crime syndicates and terrorism. The case continues to be investigated by the Delhi Police Special Cell.
