Supertech's twin towers in Noida were reduced to dust and debris in a matter of nine seconds on Sunday, and the breathless media coverage of the event sparked off smart comments and funny memes on social media.

Apex (32 floors) and Ceyane (29 floors) towers -- both of which stood taller than Delhi's iconic Qutub Minar - were brought down using a waterfall implosion technique.

People were glued to their TV sets since afternoon to watch the mega demolition event live, and at a little past 2:30 pm the illegally-built twin towers vanished for ever from the Noida skyline.

People on Twitter responded to the event with a range of feelings - humour, sarcasm, and downright skepticism on whether all this was really necessary.

"Done and Dusted. #TwintowersDemolition #Noida #NoidaTowerDemolition #NoidaTwinTowers #SupertechTwinTowers," wrote a user while sharing a clip of the demolition.

Another tweeted: They are symbol of corruption between the builders & the authorities; but also for the fight, victory & justice for the #homebuyers . May this be a lesson for all, Satyamev Jayate. @jagograhakjago #Demolition #TwinTowers #Supertech".

Here are some of the other tweets.

A giant ball of smoke rose after the demolition filling the skyline, and people on the ground watched it with some concern.

Over 3,700 kg of explosives were used for this demolition, and initial reports suggested there was no damage to none of the buildings in the vicinity.

The demolition of the twin structures generated an estimated 80,000 tonnes of construction and demolition waste. And it will take a while for the dust to settle on the demolition job.
