Okhla barrage to Jewar: Noida Expressway bypass to give direct link to airport

A proposed elevated expressway along Yamuna Pushta Road is set for a major change in alignment, with the corridor now planned to extend much closer to Noida International Airport.

The eight-lane road, being developed to provide an alternative to the busy Noida Expressway, will begin from Sector 94 near Okhla Barrage and extend to Sector 23C under the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA). It will connect with the Faridabad-Jewar Greenfield Expressway.

According to TOI, the revised alignment was cleared during a recent meeting involving the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the three development authorities.

Noida elevated expressway to stretch 50km under revised plan

The proposed Yamuna Pushta elevated corridor was initially planned as a 31km-long elevated road, ending at Chi IV in Greater Noida near Gautam Buddha University, where it would meet the Yamuna Expressway.

Under the revised plan, the corridor will now span around 50km, extending beyond Chi IV towards Gharbhara and Mursadpur before passing through YEIDA sectors 27, 26, 24, 24A and 23C.

Sector 23C is located around 3-5km from Noida International Airport and is also proposed to accommodate a 700-acre multi-modal transport hub.

Where will the Yamuna Pushta elevated road start?

The elevated expressway will start near Okhla Barrage in Sector 94 and run alongside the Yamuna embankment.

From there, the proposed alignment will pass through sectors 95, 125, 126, 127, 128, 129, 130, 131, 132, 133, 134 and 135 before continuing towards Greater Noida and the YEIDA area.

The route covers several major residential and commercial areas, including corporate office hubs, premium housing sectors and villages.

Why has the Noida airport expressway route been changed?

The alignment has been revised with an expected increase in traffic once Noida International Airport begins flight operations.

Noida Authority general manager AK Arora told TOI that the revised route was planned in anticipation of the additional traffic expected after the airport becomes operational.

The longer corridor is intended to provide a more direct connection towards the airport while easing pressure on existing routes, particularly the Noida Expressway.

Rs 4,000 crore Noida elevated expressway project

NHAI is developing the project at an estimated cost of Rs 4,000 crore.

The highway authority has been tasked with preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the revised corridor.

The project was first proposed in September 2024, when the Noida Authority sought national highway status for the Yamuna Pushta corridor to create a bypass for the Noida Expressway.

Why was the DND Flyway extension dropped?

The Yamuna Pushta elevated road has undergone several changes since it was first proposed.

In July, an NHAI consultant suggested that the corridor could begin from the DND Flyway, adding nearly 5km to the original 31km plan.

However, authorities had previously considered and ruled out extending the route to the flyway because of the Okhla Bird Sanctuary and Dalit Prerna Sthal along the proposed stretch.

The latest alignment instead starts from Sector 94 near Okhla Barrage.

Chilla Elevated Road to provide another link

The Yamuna Pushta project will also complement the 5.5km Chilla Elevated Road, which is being constructed by the Noida Authority.

The six-lane road will connect the Chilla Regulator near Mayur Vihar with Mahamaya Flyover. The project is around 55% complete and is expected to become operational by July 2027.

Since the Chilla Elevated Road will end near Mahamaya Flyover, the authority is planning another 1.4km elevated link road connecting it with Yamuna Pushta Road and the proposed embankment corridor.

Noida to Jewar airport connectivity set for major boost

The Yamuna Pushta elevated road, Chilla Elevated Road and the proposed connecting link are expected to create an alternative high-speed route alongside the existing Noida Expressway.

Together, the projects are aimed at improving connectivity between Delhi, Noida and Greater Noida, while providing a smoother route towards Noida International Airport.

Faridabad-Jewar Expressway to connect Haryana with Noida airport

Another major project is expected to strengthen airport connectivity from Haryana.

The 31km Faridabad-Jewar Greenfield Expressway, being developed by NHAI, will connect Sector 65 in Faridabad with Dayanatpur village near Noida International Airport.

The six-lane expressway is expected to reduce the journey between Faridabad and the airport to around 15-30 minutes and is scheduled to be completed by May 2027.

The revised Yamuna Pushta alignment will meet this corridor near YEIDA's Sector 23C, creating a direct connection towards the airport.
