Noida tea-seller to pay Rs. 3.25 lakhs as monthly rent for a kiosk

Sonu Kumar Jha, a tea seller, has won the bid for renting a kiosk in Noida sector-18 market after making a bid of paying Rs. 3.25 lakh as monthly rent.

A tea seller has made a bid of paying a monthly rent Rs 3.25 lakh for renting a 7 by 7 feet kiosk in Noida’s Sector 18. Sonu Kumar Jha who hails from Darbhanga district in Bihar has made the highest bid which is about 1,203 per cent higher than the base amount.

The auction for the kiosk which is situated in the Sector-18 market was conducted by Noida Authority along with six other kiosks under its “allotment of commercial kiosk”, earlier this month.

Sonu was among the other 20 contenders who participated in the bidding process for kiosk K-3, which is located near triangle park in front of McDonald’s in the Sector-18 market. Officials have said that to rent this kiosk, Sonu will have to deposit a total of 14 month’s rent in advance which amounts roughly Rs. 45 lakhs, to the Noida authorities in order to get the possession.


Sonu’s father, Digambar Jha, in an interview confirmed that his son will pay Rs 3.25 lakhs as rent and he has full confidence that his son will recover the rent amount and will also earn profit for the business which has now become famous across the city.

Sonu during an interview confessed that people are finding it hard to believe that he made such a high bid and further added that he was only thinking about the business during the bidding process. He also expressed his happiness at winning this bid.

Digambar further added that Sonu out-bidded a person who was willing to pay a rent of Rs. 3.15 lakhs per month for the same kiosk. He also said that apart from selling regular tea, cigarettes, bidi and gutka his family will now also focus on keeping food items.

The base price for renting the kiosk was Rs. 27,000 per month and the auction was held on January 10.
