The District Basic Education Officer (BSA) of Gautam Buddh Nagar has directed all schools in the district to operate from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM to protect students from exposure to high daytime temperatures. The order applies to government, government-aided, recognised, CBSE, ICSE, Madrasa and all other board-affiliated schools.

New school timings in Noida and Greater Noida

Under the revised arrangement, schools catering to students from Classes 1 to 8 must conduct classes only during morning hours. Educational institutions have been instructed to strictly comply with the directive and continue following the revised schedule until fresh instructions are issued by the district administration.

Authorities said the move was taken as temperatures continue to remain high across the region, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses among children.

Why were school timings changed?

The district administration stated that the revised timings are aimed at reducing students' exposure to extreme heat during the afternoon. By limiting school operations to the cooler morning hours, officials hope to ensure the safety and well-being of children as hot weather conditions persist.

The order comes amid continued heatwave-like conditions across several parts of north India, where temperatures have remained above normal due to delays in the advancement of the southwest monsoon.

Heat conditions persist across north India

Several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan, have witnessed hot and humid weather over the past few days. The prolonged spell of high temperatures has prompted local authorities in multiple districts to take precautionary measures, particularly for school-going children and other vulnerable groups.

As a result, changes in school schedules and public advisories have been issued in some areas to minimise exposure to extreme weather conditions.

Advisory for students and parents

Officials have advised students, parents and residents to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours. People have also been urged to stay hydrated and follow heat-related safety guidelines issued by local authorities.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that conditions are becoming favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance further into north India. The expected progress of the monsoon is likely to bring relief from the ongoing heat and humidity in the coming days.
