Toll-free travel for two-wheelers will continue
In a social media post, Gadkari said, “Some media houses are spreading misleading news about imposing toll tax on two-wheelers. No such decision is proposed. Complete exemption on toll for two-wheelers will continue.”He added that road tax is already collected from two-wheeler owners at the time of purchase, which is why tolls are not charged from them on national highways.
Gadkari criticised the false reports and said, “Creating sensation by spreading misleading news without knowing the truth is not a sign of healthy journalism. I condemn it.”
Promoting e-rickshaws: A major achievement
In another interview with Business Standard, Gadkari said that one of his biggest achievements in his 11-year tenure is promoting the use of e-rickshaws in India. He shared that e-rickshaws were introduced in 2014, and since then, about 1.5 crore people have been freed from manual labour. He especially mentioned that in states like Jharkhand and West Bengal, where hand-pulled rickshaws were common, the shift to electric rickshaws has brought great relief to many.
