Nirjala Ekadashi 2023: Everything you need to know about it

Nirjala Ekadashi is considered one of the most auspicious days for Hindus and is the most sacred of all 24 ekadashis. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, people offer prayers, observe fasts, and seek the blessings of the deity on this day.

According to the Drik Panchang, Nirjala Ekadashi will be observed on Ekadashi Tithi (11th day) of Shukla Paksha in the month of Jyeshtha. In the year 2023, it will be celebrated on May 31, 2023.

As the Ekadashi Tithi is starting on May 30 at 01:09 PM, the fast will start on Surya-Uday i.e., on May 31, 2023, and devotees can break their fast on Dwadashi Tithi, which will end on June 1, 2023, at 01:40 PM.

Significance

Nirjala Ekadashi also known as Jyeshtha Shukla Ekadashi is a festival of great spiritual importance to Hindus. Nirjala Vrat means - the fast is observed without having water and food. Devotees can consume water only after breaking their fast on Dwadashi Tithi. Nirjala Ekadashi fast is one of the most strict and sacred fast. A large number of devotees observe this fast with great devotion and dedication and offer prayers to Lord Vishnu.

Rituals

Devotees wake up early in the morning and start puja rituals after cleansing. They start their day after offering prayers to the Lord. Spend their day chanting this Maha Mantra - Om Namo Bhagvate Vasudevaye then break their fast next day on Dwadashi Tithi and consume water and food.
