Niranthara Ranga Utsava will be held from January 25 to January 29 at Mini Theatre in Kalamandira’s premises in Mysore.

Niranthara Ranga Utsava 2022-23, a five-day theatre festival has been organised under the aegis of Niranthara Foundation from January 25 to January 29 at Mini Theatre in Kalamandira’s premises in Mysore.

Poet and thinker Kotiganahalli Ramaiah, Niranthara’s Prasad Kundur & Culture Joint Director V.N. Mallikarjunaswamy will be present for the inaugural function.

‘Shantakavigala Vishranthi’, a play directed by Dr. Prakash Garud will be performed on January 26 at 6.30 pm. ‘Varasudaara’, written by Niranthara and directed by Prasad Kundur will be performed on January 27 at 6.30 pm. ‘Navilu Purana’, directed by Anagalli Suresh will be performed on Jan 28 at 6.30 pm. ‘Miss Sadarame’, directed by Badigera, Manjunath L will be performed on Jan 29 at 6.15 pm.


Many notable personalities like journalist K. Narasimhamurthy, senior theatre artists Indira Nayar and Divakar, KAS Officer Dr. D.B. Natesh, BBMP Special Commissioner, Kannada & Culture Assistant Director Dr. M.D. Sudarshan will be present. Here is a list of various dramas, documentaries and plays that would be presented at the festival:


Shantakavigala Vishranthi -January 25


It is a documentary drama that portrays the life of Sakkari Balacharya also known as Shantakavi, a famous dramatist and poet in Kannada. This drama involves the real life incidents and achievements of Shantakavi.

Varasudaara - January 26

This play is all about the history of power politics. The theme of the play revolves around the conflict between internal and external principles of three personalities of cruel politics- Shahjahan, Dara Shikoh and Aurangzeb.

Navilu Purana - January 27


This drama portrays the devastating result of war using peacock as the centre metaphor. It is a story of suffering and destruction of common people who once lived in a land of greenery.


Miss Sadarame - January 28


This drama is an experimental improvisation of Sadarame. It is the story of Sadarame, who the prince got attracted to and gave away his kingdom to marry her. The story further revolves around the difficulties faced by Sadarame in life while travelling.

Daklakatha Devikavya - January 29

This drama is an experimental piece based on stories and poetry of Kannada writer and founder-member of the Dalit Sangharsha Samiti, K.B. Siddaiah. The story focuses on untouchable rituals, beliefs, and desires and reflects on what it is like to be human in our depths.
