A newly purchased Mahindra Thar worth over ₹15 lakh fell from the first floor of a showroom in east Delhi’s Nirman Vihar on Monday evening. Police said the SUV crashed through a glass wall when the owner, a 29-year-old woman, accidentally pressed the accelerator during a ritual.

According to police, the couple had bought the SUV from the showroom and decided to perform a traditional ritual involving driving the vehicle over a lemon for good luck. While attempting this, the woman drove through the glass wall, breaking the balcony railing and falling nearly 15 feet.

Minor injuries, major damage

The woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. Her husband and a showroom employee were also inside the SUV but were not grievously hurt, police said. The Thar, however, was left badly damaged after landing upside down outside the showroom.

Incident caught on video

The incident occurred around 5 pm. Police said they were alerted by the hospital at 6.08 pm. A video of the crash was widely shared on social media, showing people gathered around the wreckage and the showroom’s shattered glass wall with a large hole.

Police confirmed they are investigating the matter. “As of now, it is unclear if the woman will be booked. Police said they have not received any complaint so far,” an officer said.
