Nidhi Tiwari performed pooja, posted ‘love yourself’ before suicide, influencer's mother says she spoke to a married man with two children then locked herself in room

A 30 year old social media influencer from Madhya Pradesh, Nidhi Tiwari, was found hanging inside her room at her home in Bhusa Mod on Sunday morning, hours after she performed a pooja downstairs and posted a message about self love on Facebook. Her mother has told police that Tiwari was on a call with a married engineer, identified as Sonu Singh, shortly before she locked herself inside her room and refused to come out, reports TOI.

Nidhi Tiwari Suicide Timeline

Police said Tiwari had an argument on the phone with Singh around 8pm on Saturday. Soon after, she shared a post on Facebook that ended with the words "love yourself." She then went up to her room and locked the door behind her.


Family members knocked between 9pm and 10pm, but Tiwari refused to eat and asked to be left alone. They went to sleep, expecting to speak with her in the morning. When the door stayed shut on Sunday, the family raised an alarm and called police. Officers reached the house, looked through a window and found Tiwari hanging inside.

Mother Alleges Relationship With Married Engineer

Tiwari's mother, Hemlata Tiwari, told police her daughter had worked as a receptionist at a hotel in Morwa, where she came in contact with Singh, an engineer employed with an NCL outsourcing firm who frequently stayed there for work.

According to Hemlata, the two grew close over time. The family later learnt Singh was already married with two children and asked Tiwari to cut ties with him. Hemlata alleged contact between the two continued regardless.

She also claimed Singh kept close tabs on her daughter, often asking where she was and who she was with. Tiwari reportedly stayed connected to him through a Bluetooth earphone even while at home, including on the night she died.

Pooja Before She Locked Her Room

Hemlata told police Tiwari performed a pooja downstairs on the night before her death. She then went up to her room while still on the call. It was after this call that she locked her door and did not open it again, her mother said.

The family has not offered any other explanation for what happened inside the room that night, and police say the sequence is still being pieced together from phone records and statements.

Police Verifying Family's Claims

Singrauli SP Siyaz K M said Tiwari's call details were being analysed as part of the investigation. Police are also verifying the claims made by the family regarding Singh and his alleged role in the events leading up to her death.

Officers have not yet confirmed the exact cause of death or established what was discussed on the final call. The post Tiwari shared before locking herself in is also being examined as part of the probe.

Who Was Nidhi Tiwari

Tiwari had built a large following online, with 9.28 lakh followers on Facebook and 7.12 lakh on Instagram. She regularly posted dance reels and took part in local events and beauty contests. In 2024, she won the Miss Pretty India title and had hoped to work in films.

Originally from Varanasi, Tiwari lived in Bhusa Mod with her mother and younger sister. As the eldest daughter, she had taken on major responsibility for the household, including constructing a house in Baidhan that her mother described as a step toward securing the family's future.

Her father, Ashok Tiwari, had moved away from the family after a job transfer, her mother said, leaving Tiwari to manage much of the household on her own alongside her career online.
