The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has proposed a toll rate increase for the 2026–27 financial year on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME). The hike, averaging around 5 per cent, will come into effect from midnight of April 1. Authorities have also made toll payments fully digital, allowing transactions only through FASTag or UPI.

Access Points on DME

The access-controlled expressway can be entered or exited at seven locations: Sarai Kale Khan, Indirapuram, Dundahera, Dasna, Rasoolpur Sikrod, Bhojpur, and Kashi toll plaza.

Revised Toll Rates

"As per the new rates, which vary based on the make of the vehicles, from Sarai Kale Khan to Meerut, which is about 82km, the new rates for one-way commuting for light vehicles - including cars, jeeps, vans or light motor vehicles - will be ₹175, which was ₹170. The rates for a return journey will be ₹265 and increase by ₹10," said an NHAI official.

For light commercial vehicles, goods carriers, and minibuses, the one-way toll on the same route has been revised to ₹285 from ₹275. The return journey will now cost ₹425, up from ₹415.

"From Indirapuram to Meerut, the new rates for light vehicles will be ₹120, up by ₹5, and the return journey will now be ₹189 from ₹175. Likewise, rates have been hiked for other kinds of vehicles, which include buses or trucks (two axles), MAV/three-axle vehicles, MAV 4-6 axle and oversized vehicles (seven or more axles)," said the official.

Traffic Volume and Tolling System

The DME and NH-9 corridor handle around 3.98 lakh passenger car units (PCU) daily, with nearly 50,000 PCU on the expressway alone.

NHAI has implemented a closed tolling system on this stretch, ensuring commuters pay only for the distance travelled. Cameras installed at all entry and exit points work alongside FASTag readers to calculate toll charges accurately.
