New LPG Aadhaar rule from October 1: Check Aadhaar authentication process, what to do if biometric verification is incomplete and other FAQs

From October 1, Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) will become mandatory for domestic LPG consumers to book refills at the regulated retail selling price with applicable subsidy. Those yet to complete the authentication will be able to book subsidised refills at the regulated retail selling price once the process is completed. Consumers can complete BAA during refill delivery, at their LPG distributor's showroom or through the mobile applications of the three public sector oil marketing companies (OMCs).

How to complete Aadhar authentication staying at home?

Indane customers can use the IndianOil ONE app, Bharatgas customers can use HelloBPCL and HP Gas customers can use HP PAY to complete the authentication from home.


The ministry said consumers who are unwilling or unable to complete BAA can continue to receive LPG, but will have to register their choice through their OMC's digital channels, including consumer portals, mobile apps, WhatsApp chatbots and IVRS. Such consumers will receive LPG at the applicable market price without subsidy, in 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders, subject to local availability.

Also, the consumers can complete the authentication at their doorstep, with the delivery person using the OMC’s mobile application to carry out the process.

Consumers can visit their LPG distributor’s showroom and complete the biometric Aadhaar authentication in person.

Why has the government taken this step?

Linking each LPG connection with an Aadhaar-authenticated consumer is intended to prevent subsidised domestic cylinders from being diverted for commercial and industrial use, and to identify duplicate and ineligible connections.

Consumers who have not yet completed the Aadhaar authentication process have several options to finish it before the new rule takes effect.

Consumers who have already completed Biometric Aadhaar Authentication will not have to repeat the process. Their LPG refill bookings will continue as usual.

Will LPG cylinder delivery stop if Aadhaar authentication isn't done?

No, LPG supplies will not be stopped for consumers who have not completed Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA).

However, the consumers will need to register their requirement through their respective oil marketing companies’ (OMCs) digital channels, including the Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS), WhatsApp chatbot, mobile app or consumer website.

Such consumers will continue to receive LPG cylinders at the applicable market price, without subsidy, in 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders, subject to availability with the OMC.

What is the total subsidy on an LPG gas cylinder?

Domestic LPG is sold below its cost, with the government providing an implicit subsidy.

According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the implicit subsidy was around Rs 210 per 14.2 kg cylinder in September 2026, compared with Rs 721 per cylinder in June 2026.
