Netizens react after a couple survives a plane crash and posts a "second chance" selfie

In what could have been a terrifying tragedy, a LATAM Airlines plane caught fire after crashing with a fire truck on the runway last weekend. While all 120 passengers aboard the aircraft walked out without injuries, the two firefighters in the fire truck got killed in the accident.

A couple of the survivors posted a picture of themselves moments after being rescued. Enrique Varsi-Rospigliosi shared a picture of him and his wife from the airport, with the damaged aircraft in the background. He wrote that life gave them a second chance.

The photo instantly went viral, especially after a popular Facebook page, A320 Systems, shared the picture, stating that it was the "selfie of the year." However, netizens were divided over the picture, with several people celebrating their survival and many condemning them for posting a picture of them as two firefighters were killed in the incident.


Some users wrote it was bizarre for people to take pictures right after surviving a tragedy, though they agreed they would do the same thing. However, some users were scathing in their criticism, calling the husband and wife "idiots" and "clowns." One user called them rude but mentioned that the couple might not have been aware of the two firefighters at the time of taking the selfie.
