Kinky, awkward, embarrassing – these are some of the words used by critics, fans and the media to describe Netflix’s latest show called Obsession. The mini-series, which stars Charlie Murphy and Richard Armitage, is being panned for being too sexual and inappropriate.

Obsession has Charlie Murphy playing Anna Barton, who has an affair with her fiancé's father William, played by Richard Armitage. The second episode of Obsession has an uncomfortable scene apparently between Anna and William, and it is making viewers and netizens uneasy.

The reactions range from disgust to low ratings for the show. The UK’s Independent has given Obsession a one-star rating out of five.

The BBC has also slammed Obsession, calling it "excruciating to watch", while Rolling Stones calls it the "kinkiest series yet".

However, the show's intimacy coordinator Adelaide Waldrop has said that every touch and grab between the two leads was rehearsed and again checked during the shoot to see if they were comfortable.

However, The Guardian’s critic Lucy Mangan is of a different opinion. She said that the actors in this thriller all seem to need the toilet. The odd facial expressions in this show are meant to depict 'barely controllable lust'.

Some viewers did like Obsession and the lead pair, but these are few and far between. One viewer called the pair a “rockstar”, while the other commented, “Super hit! Loved this series . Brilliant acting by all!”

But mostly, people are unhappy with the series, but that is only adding to the buzz for Netflix.

Rish Shah plays Jay, Anna’s to-be, while Indira Varma plays his mother and William’s wife Ingrid. Jay’s sister is played by Sonera Angel.

Obsession is based on the book Damage by Josephine Hart. It was adapted into a movie of the same name in 1992, starring Juliette Binoche and Jeremy Irons.
