NTA working to declare results early
A senior NTA official told ANI that the agency is speeding up the evaluation process and expects to release the re-NEET UG results by July 20. While the official did not reveal an exact date, the agency said the work is being carried out on a priority basis."We would not like to give out any date as of now, but the result will be out by July 20. Normally, the results are announced within 45 days of the examination, but this time, as we have conducted the exam in 37 days, we will announce the results much earlier," a senior NTA official told ANI during a telephonic interview.
The re-NEET UG examination was conducted on June 21 after the earlier May 3 test for more than 20 lakh candidates was cancelled following allegations of a paper leak.
Around 10,000 objections under review
The provisional answer key was released on June 25, and candidates were allowed to raise objections until June 28. According to the official, the NTA received nearly 10,000 challenges from students.Explaining how the review process works, the official said every objection has to be checked individually before the final answer key is prepared.
"We need to scan all the challenges one by one, examine the supporting evidence, and respond to each one of them."
Candidates were required to pay ₹200 per question while submitting objections. The amount is refunded if a challenge is accepted as correct.
MBBS admissions will not be delayed
Even though the entrance exam had to be conducted again this year, the NTA said it does not expect the medical admission calendar to be pushed back. The official said the first-year MBBS academic session will begin on time. However, the detailed counselling schedule is yet to be announced.
Once the NEET UG results are declared, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will publish the counselling programme for the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats, along with admissions to AIIMS, JIPMER, central universities and deemed universities. Individual states will separately release counselling schedules for their 85% state quota seats.
What happens after the result?
After the result is announced, eligible candidates will have to register online for counselling, pay the prescribed fee and submit their preferred choices of colleges and courses.Seats will be allotted based on factors such as NEET rank, reservation rules, category, candidate preferences and seat availability. Students who receive an allotment will then have to report to their respective colleges for document verification and admission.
The admission process is usually completed in multiple phases, including Round 1, Round 2, the Mop-up Round and the Stray Vacancy Round, to ensure all available seats are filled before the new academic session begins.
Meanwhile, some states have already begun preliminary admission-related procedures. Tamil Nadu, for instance, has opened applications through its Medical Selection Committee while awaiting the NEET UG result.
